Workshop weighs intuition as way God speaks to us
Some call it a hunch, a gut reaction or a premonition. Others say it is discernment or a sixth sense.
In an upcoming workshop titled "Is This My Intuition or Indigestion?" Mary T. Sise will provide her own interpretation of what this "quick and ready insight" means.
God's voice
"I believe that God is 'broadcasting' to us all the time and that, sometimes, due to fear or our very human tendency to want to 'fix' things in our lives ourselves, we are just not on the same channel," she told The Evangelist. In describing the theme of her workshop (to be held at the diocesan Pastoral Center in Albany on March 22 at 7 p.m.), she noted, "If you can imagine that God is broadcasting live on the radio of your mind, you can also imagine that the frequency AM might mean 'Almighty Mode' and FM 'Fear Mode.' When we are afraid, our minds are in the FM mode and God can't get through. Once we make the 'switch' to AM mode, we allow God to enter our thought processes and then we can make ourselves available to 'hear' what God is telling us.
"The feelings we have are often confusing. Sometimes, we can't tell whether it is intuition or what I call indigestion -- that nagging, gut fear we get when we know something is awry. With a little bit of effort, we can differentiate between what we think is the correct choice and what God is nudging us to do."
Tuning in
Ms. Sise plans to give participants the answers to their questions, helping them find ways to quiet the mind and the body, and develop visualization techniques that will make them open to the "correct frequency" that God is "broadcasting" on."The basic premise of the workshop will be to let participants know that everyone receives God's message in their lives at all times. Once we tune in our radios to the right frequency, the message will clearly come through."
(Ms. Sise, who is a parishioner of St. Pius X parish in Loudonville, is on the adjunct faculty of Siena College, where she teaches interpersonal communication. Additionally, she maintains a private practice in Latham. To register for her workshop, contact the diocesan Consultation Center at 489-4431. The fee is $12.)
