GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
What's going on?
Jesus, help me be patient when something's going on and no one's telling me anything! Amen.
When Mary Magdalene got to the cave where Jesus' body had been, she saw that the huge stone that had blocked the entrance was rolled away. Mary ran and told Peter and the other disciples, "They've taken Jesus away!" The disciples ran back to the cave and saw that Jesus wasn't there -- He had risen from the dead!
When you're a kid, adults don't always tell you everything. You might notice them whispering to each other and wonder what's going on, trying to figure it out, until they finally let you in on it: You're going to have a little brother or sister!
If that's a shock, imagine how the people in this week's Gospel (John 20:1-9) felt! Jesus' followers were struggling with their feelings after Jesus died, and then they started to realize something was going on that they knew nothing about.
When you see adults whispering or just get the feeling there's something mysterious going on, you probably imagine all sorts of possibilities: Someone's sick....You're getting that dog you always wanted....Your family is moving to Alaska.
Jesus' followers did the same thing. When Mary Magdalene saw that the boulder at Jesus' grave was moved, she immediately thought something bad had happened: Jesus' body had been stolen. It didn't occur to her that the real answer could be totally different!
Even if it takes them a while, the adults around you will usually let you in on their big news when they're ready -- or else you'll figure it out for yourself, and ask them.
In the Gospel story, the disciples finally realized that Jesus wasn't in His grave for a different reason than they first thought: He had come back from the dead, just like He promised!
