Vaccaro pens book
A book written by a local college president will benefit several Catholic colleges.
Sales from "In Search of Wisdom: A College President's Journey" by Louis C. Vaccaro, former president of The College of Saint Rose in Albany, will benefit the Independent College Fund of New York. Both Saint Rose and Maria College receive money from the fund.
The book, explained Dr. Vaccaro, is intended for people working in academia, although former co-workers of Dr. Vaccaro and alumni of Saint Rose might also be interested, he said.
The book contains the controversies, thoughts and issues dealt with by Dr. Vaccaro during his 25 years of service to four separate colleges. It includes his ideas on tenure, free speech and governance.
Prodded to write the book by a professor at Saint Rose, Dr. Vaccaro described the publishing of the book as "a family affair at Saint Rose."
Dr. Vaccaro retired from his post at Saint Rose last year. Currently, he is doing consulting with the State University of New York at Albany and First Albany Corporation. He and his wife have plans to relocate to Nevada.
"I'm originally from Los Angeles, and my brothers and sister are on the West Coast," he said. "We will spend our summers here so it will be the best of both worlds."
