Two families aided, have 'Wheels to Work'
Last week, Catholic Charities of Schenectady County donated its first two cars as part of its "Wheels for Work" program that gives low-income, working families the mobility necessary to help them continue working.
The program is made possible through a grant from New York State's Office of Temporary Disability Assistance.
"I was down on my luck with my car," said William Jordan. "It broke down, and I had no where to turn. My job was in jeopardy. I found this program, Wheels for Work, and they helped me and my kids. They blessed me with a car to get back and forth to work. I am grateful."
Latisha Jones, the other recipient, said, "Catholic Charities helped me out a lot with transportation back and forth to work to help support myself and my kids. I have only been able to work once or twice a week recently because of a lack of transportation, and now will be able to get more hours."
AAA, SEFCU, Princetown Autobody and Gateway Driving School joined other partners of Catholic Charities to contribute services to help underwrite the cost of operating the vehicles for the families.
Trooper Harold Wittner from the New York State Troopers helped give proper child-seat installation directions.
