Try it, with God's help

Jesus, teach me to try new things, with help from you and the people around me! Amen.

After Jesus came back from the dead, the 11 Apostles went to Galilee to meet Him. They felt a little scared, but Jesus told them, "Go and teach all people about God, and baptize them in teh name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. And remember, I'll always be with you!"

Starting something new can be scary. Whether you're taking your first karate lesson or walking into school on Monday, you wonder what you'll be asked to do -- and whether you'll be able to do it!

Jesus' Apostles, His closest friends, felt like you. When they met Jesus, they just thought He was an interesting man. In this week's Gospel (Matthew 28:16-20), when they found out He was the Son of God, and that He wanted them to go out and teach people about God, they were probably scared to death! How could they teach and baptize people all over the world?

The first step to doing something new is remembering you have help. Your karate teacher will help you understand karate moves; your teachers in school and parents will talk about your homework and work on it with you. You can always go to people for advice.

For the Apostles, it was most important to remember that even after Jesus wasn't with them any more, He'd always be in their hearts. They could always pray to Him for help and He'd be listening. If Jesus wanted them to accomplish something, He'd help them do it!

The Apostles weren't the only ones who could ask for God's help. When you're scared of trying something new, you can pray, too.

When Jesus said, "I'll always be with you," He didn't just mean He'd be with the Apostles. He's right next to you all the time!
