Tips for loving the earth
* "In a parish setting, do we ever, when planning something, sit down and say, `How is this going to impact the environment?' People say, `You can't have a bazaar and have china [plates], but do we weigh the difference between styrofoam and paper?"
* "What happens to all those potted poinsettias [used in churches at Christmas]? Sometimes, they just get eighty-sixed."
* "Be aware that what I throw in the garbage is going to end up in the landfill. [Ask], `Where can I send this?' or back it up a step [and ask], `Do I need to buy it?'"
* "There's a lot of websites you can go to and take action: Sign petitions, send letters to the government to say, `What's in our food?' [With] genetically altered food, we don't even know what we're eating anymore. The very web of life is being altered. What are we doing to our food supply?" (KB)
