PERSPECTIVE
Thoughts on TV series
Do you understand the concept of vocation? What best describes your concept of the term "vocation?"
A vocation is a call from God who created me to live a commitment of single, married, ordained or religious life.
A vocation is a job, like teaching or furniture designing.
My vocation is what I choose to do to make me happy.
My vocation is what I commit myself to in life, out of love for others and for God.
A vocation is anything I choose to do with my life.
I know/do not know my vocation.
I am discerning my vocation right now.
I believe that God will help me know what I was meant to be.
I see no purpose to my life on earth and no purpose in living any vocation.
I watched/did not watch the Lifetime series "The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns."
In reality-TV style, "The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns" was an attempt to show vocation discernment for four women who are exploring a call from God to live the consecrated life, or sisterhood. There were many good points made in the six-part program. There were also many comments and situations which seemed to be sensationalized: taken out of context and not the reality of what the life of a religious sister is all about.
If you have questions about the series, I would love to help dispel any myths and clarify information. If you are discerning a call to consecrated life, I would love to help you hone authentic discernment skills.
Be not afraid. There are answers and there is joy in finding out the purpose of your life.
