GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
The first snowfall
Jesus, help me see everyday things as amazing - like snow! Amen.
John the Baptist saw Jesus and said, "There's the Lamb of God!" Right away, two men named Andrew and John asked Jesus, "Teacher, where are you staying?" Jesus answered, "Come see." Andrew told his brother, Peter, "We have found the Messiah, who'll save the world!"
The first snow of winter can seem like magic - especially during years when it's late arriving, like this year. Long before you get tired of bundling up and being told to shovel the driveway, you're excited about the beautiful, perfect snowflakes!
In this week's Gospel (John 1:35-42), Andrew, John and Peter are as ready for Jesus as a kid is ready for the first snow. They're psyched; they're eager; they want to see the miracle and chase after it. Why else would they drop everything and declare right away that Jesus is the Messiah, when they just met Him?
Like the first big snowfall each year seems special and magical, Jesus really is special. People have been hearing John the Baptist talk about Jesus for a while, and they want to meet this savior, this person John has promised is sent from heaven by God. They're ready to believe in Jesus as soon as they see Him.
After it's snowed a few times, snow doesn't seem as amazing. It's cold and wet and you've played with a sled or ice skates, and you're starting to imagine how warm it would be at Disney World all the time, if you had a million dollars and you could live there.
Jesus never got boring. Andrew, John and Peter said on the day they met Him that He would save the world, and they became Apostles, His closest friends and followers. It's a good thing they did, because they were right about Him: He really was the Son of God, and He did save the world![[In-content Ad]]
