TEEN EVENT
Stories to tell of faith
Thirteen teenagers will tell stories about religion during "Children at the Well: Drawing from the Wisdom of Faith Traditions."
The young people will relate experiences that helped form them and stories about their faiths to help others understand what they believe.
The event will be held April 30, 1:30 p.m., at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park.
Stories of faith
Gertrude Johnson, project director of the Interfaith Story Circle of the Tri-City Area, founded the group as a means of peace-making and understanding other faiths.
"Our goal has been to give [the next generation] the opportunity to demonstrate the transforming and healing power of story to family, friends and the broader community," explained Ms. Johnson, a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady.
Youths from four faith traditions will participate in the event: Christians, Jews, Hindus and Muslims.
Telling stories
Daniel Bacchi, a seventh-grader at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School in Schenectady, said, "I always enjoyed telling stories, but I didn't think I was a very good storyteller. This has given me a chance to learn [storytelling] skills, and now I think I am a good storyteller."
Daniel, who attends St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady, decided the story of Our Lady of Lourdes would be interesting to relate.
"I'm going to tell them that I believe in Jesus Christ, and that He is God and died on the Cross for us," he said. "I am also going to talk a little bit about the saints. That's where I'll tell the miracle story of Lourdes."
