GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
Stay ready for anything
Jesus, help me relax, now that Thanksgiving is over! Amen. "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars when the world is going to end," Jesus said. "When you see those signs, know that I am coming back. And remember me all the time, because if you forget, I might come back when you don't expect me."
Last week, your family might have been running around a lot: getting ready to travel, going out for Thanksgiving dinner, cleaning the house because relatives or friends were coming and buying extra food. This week, everyone's probably still recovering!
There's a lot to remember in the time leading up to holidays. Even though you don't have to buy gifts for Thanksgiving, there are enough details to keep any family busy.
This week's Gospel (Luke 21:25-28,34-36) is about remembering important details - the ones that will show, someday, that Jesus is coming back. Jesus said that, when the times comes for His return, there will be changes in the sun, moon and stars.
For different families, planning for Thanksgiving means buying a turkey and cranberry sauce, making beds, buying plane tickets or remembering to arrive on time to serve dinner to poor people. But, really, the only important thing about Thanks-giving is being with people you care about!
Jesus made the same point in the Gospel story: Thinking about the end of the world isn't about worrying and planning. We don't know when Jesus will come back, so the only really important thing is to keep close to Him all the time.
After Thanksgiving is over, it might be a relief to get back to your normal schedule. Jesus didn't want people to spend their lives planning for His return like families rush around planning for Thanksgiving. He just wanted everyone to keep Him in mind as they went through their days. Then you'll be ready for anything![[In-content Ad]]
