Six priests mark silver jubilees
Six priests serving in the Albany Diocese will soon reach the 25th anniversary of their ordination day. They are: Revs. Winston Bath, Anthony Curran, Joseph Falletta, John Minkler, Edward Pratt and James Rosch. A seventh priest, Rev. Kenneth Swain, will celebrate his anniversary in November.
REV. WINSTON BATH, a native of Marshall, Texas, graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, and then took his theological training at Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Glenmont, and at Theological College, Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He was ordained at Christ Sun of Justice Chapel at RPI, May 21, 1972, by Bishop Edwin B. Broderick.
Father Bath has served as associate pastor of Sacred Heart parish, Cairo; St. James, Albany; and Sacred Heart, Troy. He was appointed administrator of St. Mary's in Hudson in 1985 and pastor there in 1990. In addition to his assignment at St. Mary's, Father Bath for a time was also administrator of Sacred Heart parish in that city.
REV. ANTHONY CURRAN was born in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland. His education for the priesthood was at Mount Mellery Seminary, County Waterford, Ireland, and St. Patrick's College, Carlow, Ireland. He was ordained in Ireland on July 29, 1972.
From 1972 to 1977, Father Curran served in the Diocese of Trenton, N.J. In the Albany Diocese, he has served as associate at St. Paul's, Schenectady, and Our Lady of Victory, Troy, and then as chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. He thereafter ministered at St. Brigid's, Watervliet; St. Mary's, Glens Falls; Ss. Peter and Paul, Frankfort; St. Joseph's, Dolgeville and St. John the Evangelist, Schenectady, where he is now serving.
Father Curran will celebrate his 25th anniversary at a Mass on August 3, 11:30 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church.
REV. JOSEPH A. FALLETTA, a native of Rochester, graduated from East High in that city. He graduated from Monroe Community College and then studied for the priesthood at Wadham's Hall, Ogdensburg, and Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Glenmont. His ordination took place on May 13, 1972, at Ogdensburg, with Bishop Stanislaus Brzana as ordaining prelate.
Father Falletta served as chaplain at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, with residence at St. Patrick's, Troy, from 1978 to 1982, and then did missionary work outside the Diocese for several years. In 1987, he was appointed pastor of St. Alphonsus, Glens Falls. He was appointed director of the Spanish Apostolate in 1992, and in 1994 was named pastor of Nativity/St. Mary's in Stuyvesant, his current pastorate.
REV. JOHN A. MINKLER was born in Troy and graduated from Catholic Central High School there. He studied for the priesthood at Mater Christi Seminary, Albany, and St. Paul's University Seminary in Ottawa, Ontario. He was ordained May 13, 1972 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, by Bishop Edwin B. Broderick.
Following ordination, Father Minkler was appointed assistant pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Rensselaer, where he served until being appointed to St. Teresa of Avila, Albany. He has served as secretary to Archbishop Joseph T. Ryan in the Military Ordinariate in New York City, and from 1984 to the present as chaplain at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital, Albany.
He will observe his jubilee with a Mass at the Carmelite Monastery in Schenectady on May 18 at 2 p.m. The homilist at the Mass will be Rev. George W. Rutler of St. Agnes, New York City. Archbishop Ryan will preside. Following Mass, there will be a reception at the Monastery.
REV. EDWARD C. PRATT, a native of Rensselaer, graduated from St. John's Academy there. He earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Siena College in Loudonville. He has earned a master's in divinity from Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Glenmont, and a master's in educational administration from the State University of New York at Albany. He was ordained May 13, 1972 by Bishop Edwin B. Broderick at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany.
Father Pratt's first assignment was to the faculty of St. Mary's Academy, Glens Falls, with residence at St. Mary's Church there. He served at St. Matthew's, Voorheesville, during the summer of 1974, and in the fall became vice-principal of Vincentian Institute, Albany, with residence at Holy Cross Church. In 1976, he was appointed principal of St. Mary's Academy, Glens Falls, and resided at St. Mary's, Hudson Falls. In 1978, he was named associate pastor of Immaculate Conception, Glenville.
From 1979 to 1990, Father Pratt served as vice chancellor of the Diocese and the Bishop's Secretary. He then served for six years as pastor of St. Mary/St. Paul's, Hudson Falls, and from 1996 to the present as pastor of Corpus Christi, Ushers.
REV. JAMES J. ROSCH was born in Albany and graduated from Vincentian Institute, Albany. His theological training was taken at Mater Christi, Albany, and St. Mary's College and University, Baltimore, Md. Father Rosch was ordained May 13, 1972 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany, by Bishop Edwin B. Broderick.
His first assignment was as associate at St. Joseph's in Scotia. He has also served as associate at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Gloversville; St. Paul's, Troy; St. Madeleine Sophie, Guilderland; and Our Lady of the Annunciation, Queensbury. In 1996, he was named pastor of St. Joseph's in Fort Edward, where he currently serves.
To mark his anniversary, Father Rosch will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving on May 13, 6 p.m. at St. Joseph's, followed by a reception in the school gym.
