Sister Mary Joan Newell, CSJ

A funeral Mass was offered Oct. 21 in the chapel of St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham, for Sister Mary Joan Newell, who died Oct. 18. She was 93 and had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 75 years.

A native of Utica, she taught for 36 years in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses and in Savannah, Georgia. She was religious education coordinator for St. Joseph's parish in Fort Edward for 13 years and spent 10 years as chaplain at a hospital in Utica.

Interment was at Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery, Latham.[[In-content Ad]]
