SIGNING UP FOR FAITH

A CANDIDATE IS a person baptized in another Christian tradition who wishes to become Catholic. A catechumen is a person formerly of a non-Christian faith or no religious background who decides to join the Catholic Church.

Last weekend, the Rite of Election was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany, with 84 candidates and 44 catechumens signing the Book of the Elect to symbolize their intention to join the Catholic Church at Easter.

Top, Joe Tiffault of St. Paul the Apostle parish in Schenectady adds his name to the Book of the Elect, signifying his intention to join the Catholic Church.

Bottom, Patti Corsi of St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar signs the Book of the Elect. Learn more about those becoming Catholic at Easter in The Evangelist's print edition. To subscribe, call 518-453-6688 or email [email protected]. (Nate Whitchurch photos)[[In-content Ad]]
