It was a week of highs and lows for two Catholic teams from the Albany Diocese:

CBA
In the battle of the CBAs, Christian Brothers Academy of Albany fell short to their peers from Syracuse last weekend, ending their run at a state championship.

CBA's (Syracuse) Stefan Thompson hit a jump shot with 14 seconds left to break a 45-45 tie, which proved to be a game winner, as the Christian Brothers of Syracuse won 50-45 in a New York State Class AA regional game in Cicero North Syracuse.

The Brothers of Syracuse will now head to the Glens Falls Civic Center this weekend for the state semifinals and championship.

Kameron Ritter led all scorers with 13 points for CBA (Albany) and Galal Cancer added 10, but it was not enough. In a game that was tight throughout, the Brothers led 32-21 with eight minutes left, but were unable to hold on.

CBA finished their season with a record of 20-4, finishing second in the Big Ten Conference and winning the Class AA Sectionals.

NCAA TOURNAMENT
After a week of speculation as to who and where the Siena Saints of Loudonville would be playing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the entire field of 65 was announced last weekend. It didn't take long for Siena College to find out its fate, as they were the second game announced on CBS' national telecast.

The Saints were handed a No. 9 seed and will take on the No. 8 seeded Ohio State Buckeyes of the Big Ten Conference March 20 in the Midwest bracket.

Thanks to a 26-7 overall record, which included a tough non-conference schedule and a dominating 16-2 record in the MAAC, the Saints were rewarded with their highest seed in team history and the third-highest seed of any MAAC team in NCAA tournament history.

The Buckeyes finished their season 22-10 and lost the Big Ten championship to Purdue. The game will be played in Dayton, Ohio. The winner of the game will likely face No. 1 overall seed Louisville March 22.[[In-content Ad]]
