'Shoulda-woulda-coulda'

If you aren't a "shoulda-woulda-coulda-person," you probably won't relate to this, as you are probably good at looking forward in life.

Although I know that Christianity is different than every other religion that requires good deeds to get into heaven, I sometimes struggle with trying to be good - and with looking back when I'm not.

Recently, I was listening to a sermon by Andy Stanley on his book, "How Good is Good Enough." His basic message was that good people don't go to heaven; forgiven people do.

There is a beautiful park by our house where my husband, Mike, and I walk. He patiently endures my gushing over the budding trees, singing birds, grazing cows and emerging perennials: "Oh, Mike, look at this! Look at that!"

When things are going well, I relish the incredible beauty of nature and life itself. But when things aren't going well, I barely notice anything, as the proverbial shoulda-woulda-coulda record spins and steals my peace.

How silly it is to walk through life looking back with regret when falling short. If that was what our Lord wanted us to do, why would He give His life for us?

It makes more sense to live life as a forgiven soul, a life of receiving and extending mercy.

I'm happy to report that after being over-played, the shoulda-woulda-coulda record got scratched and had to be thrown away. Because it is now obsolete, it will not be replaced.
