SPORTS ROUNDUP
Saints, CSR gas up; Spa Catholic wins
After overcoming a scare against Iona, the Siena College Saints, from Loudonville, returned to form last Thursday night, defeating Canisius 91-73. Kenny Hasbrouck led all scorers with 21 points, including scoring the first 10 points of the game for Siena. The win not only kept Siena undefeated in the MAAC at 11-0, but it extended the Saints home winning streak to 11 games.
Siena has actually won 14 consecutive games played at the Times Union Center, but three of the games came in the MAAC Tournament last March, which is considered a neutral court.
SAINT ROSE
In a game that was close throughout, The College of Saint Rose in Albany turned it on in overtime to defeat division rival Pace 86-80. Josh Pelletier led the Golden Knights (9-11, 7-8) with 20 points, and was one of four players to score in double figures.
Saint Rose opened the overtime by scoring the first 11 points, and junior guard Jermaine Clark hit a 3-pointer with under two minutes left, which gave the Knights a six point lead and would prove to be the final basket of the game.
At halftime, 55 St. Rose student-athletes were honored for academic excellence.
BOYS' BASKETBALL
Christian Brothers Academy used a strong first half performance from Kameron Ritter and downed Albany High 68-53 Friday night at CBA in Colonie. Ritter scored 18 points in the first half, to give the Brothers a 42-16 lead at the break. He finished with 20.
In Saratoga Springs, senior Danny O'Rourke finished with 19 points and Saratoga Central Catholic High (5-7, 6-10) easily defeated Mayfield 68-38.
Meanwhile, the Griffins of Bishop Maginn High in Albany denied CBA the chance to gain ground on them in the standings, as they defeated Schenectady 79-57 at Bishop Maginn. Four Griffins players scored in double figures, led by Taran Buie's 16 points.[[In-content Ad]]
