GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
Ready for a new routine
Jesus, help me remember that I'll get into a routine again when I go back to school! Amen.
Jesus told all His followers that He came from heaven. Many didn't believe Him and even stopped following Him. Jesus asked the Apostles, "Are you going to leave me, too?" "Where would we go?" Peter answered. "We know that you came from God."
Even if you're tired of being bored, that doesn't mean you're absolutely ready to back to school. You've gotten used to summer: staying up late at night, sleeping late in the morning and deciding what to do each day instead of having it all scheduled for you.
If you're feeling a little nervous about starting school, this week's Gospel (John 6:60-69) is the one for you. It's a reminder that even Jesus felt nervous sometimes!
As He taught people about God, Jesus got into a kind of routine. He would go to a place and a crowd would gather; He would tell them how much God loved them, explain things about faith that they didn't understand and even heal some people.
When He told the people that He came from heaven, it was like switching from summer to school: The routine He'd gotten used to changed. People didn't trust Him; they thought He was wrong or weird. They stopped following Him.
Getting ready to go back to school doesn't happen overnight. You have to buy school supplies; you might start changing your bedtime to get used to being up early again. If you had projects to do over the summer, you finish them.
Even Jesus needed reassurance that everything wasn't changing. When He lost some followers, His friends comforted Him that He didn't need to worry; they were sticking with Him. Even if Jesus was as nervous as a kid going back to school, He'd get into a routine again, and people would believe He was telling the truth: He really was the Son of God![[In-content Ad]]
