LASALLE INSTITUTE
Principal selected
Jeffrey P. Loomis, associate and middle school principal at LaSalle Institute in Troy, will become its new principal in July, thus becoming the first lay principal in the school's 154-year history.
He succeeds Brother Christopher J. Belleman, FSC, who has been at LaSalle for 17 years, four as principal.
"This is quite an honor. It's a humbling experience to be the first non-Brother principal," said Mr. Loomis, who graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. "Being a 'Brothers' boy' allows me to understand and appreciate LaSallian values and traditions. I pledge to continue those at LaSalle."
Mr. Loomis, a graduate of Siena College in Loudonville, holds a master's degree in education administration from LaSalle University in Philadelphia. He was honored in 2001 with the LaSallian Educator of the Year award.
Brother Christopher said, "My fondest memories are the times I spent with the students. I'll miss being here, but I know that Mr. Loomis will do an excellent job carrying on the mission of LaSalle and will continue the excellence of the school."
LaSalle Institute -- an independent, Catholic, college-preparatory school for boys in grades 6-12 -- is conducted by the Brothers of Christian Schools. For information, call 283-2500.
