Priests celebrate various anniversaries
Father DeGiovine, a native of Brooklyn who grew up in Greenville, was ordained on May 14, 1977. He served at St. Mary's, East Durham; St. Paul's, Troy; and Our Lady of the Assumption, Latham.
In 1981, he was named chaplain at the Kenwood Convent of the Sacred Heart in Albany, a position he held for 20 years. Concurrently, from 1981-89, he was director of the diocesan Office of Vocations and Formation.
Since 1989, Father DeGiovine has been dean of spiritual life at The College of Saint Rose in Albany.
(Father DeGiovine will mark his 25th anniversary on June 2 at the 10:45 a.m. liturgy at St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville.)

A native of Vermont, Father Turner was ordained on Oct. 29, 1977. He served at Immaculate Heart, Hudson Falls; St. Mary's, Amsterdam; St. Mary/Mt. Carmel/All Saints, Middle Granville and Granville; St. Patrick's, Ravena; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Gloversville; and Annunciation, Ilion.In 1992, Father Turner was named director of HIV/AIDS Ministries in the Diocese and chaplain at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
He has also been pastor of St. Monica's Church, Johnsonville; Sacred Heart, Castleton; St. John's, Schaghticoke; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Valley Falls; and Nativity/St. Mary's, Stuyvesant Falls; and Holy Family, Stottville.
(Father Turner has not yet announced plans for observing his jubilee.)

Ten priests of the Albany Diocese are marking their 40th anniversaries in 2002:REV. CHARLES GAFFIGAN, a native of Hudson, was ordained on May 26, 1962. He served briefly at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Schenectady, before teaching at Cardinal McCloskey High in Albany. The parishes he has been stationed in include: St. Michael's, S. Glens Falls; St. Joseph's, Broadalbin; Annunciation, Ilion; Most Precious Blood of Jesus, S. Kortright; St. Mary's, Glens Falls; and Sacred Heart, Philmont.
Since 1991, he has been pastor of Holy Infancy Church in Lake Luzerne.
(Father Gaffigan plans on noting his jubilee at a 3 p.m. Mass on August 4 in his parish, followed by a picnic. August 4 is the feast of St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, patron saint of priests.)
REV. TERENCE HEALY
, who was born in Dublin, Ireland, was ordained on June 17, 1962. In the Albany Diocese, he has served at St. Patrick's, Watervliet; St. Gabriel's, Rotterdam; Ss. Peter and Paul, Canajoharie; St. Helen's, Niskayuna; and Annunciation, Ilion.Since 1985, he has been pastor of St. Joseph's Church, West Winfield.
(Father Healy has not announced plans for observing his anniversary.)

REV. ALAN JUPIN
, a native of Troy, was ordained on May 26, 1962. He has served at St. Thomas, Delmar; St. John the Baptist, Schenectady; Our Lady of Mercy, Colonie; and Our Lady of Fatima, Schenectady, where he has been pastor since 1989.He has also served on the Priests' Personnel Board and the Priests' Senate.

REV. DANIEL MAHER
, a native of Ireland, was ordained June 9, 1962. He has served in the Albany Diocese at St. Teresa of Avila, Albany; St. Mary's, Clinton Heights; St. Francis de Sales, Loudonville; and Sacred Heart of Mary, Watervliet.He is currently pastor of Holy Cross parish in Albany.

REV. LEO MARKERT
, a native of Albany, was ordained on May 26, 1962. He has served at St. Mary's, Oneonta; St. Patrick's, Watervliet (while on the faculty of Catholic Central High in Troy); St. Teresa's, Albany (while a chaplain at Albany Medical Center Hospital); and St. Michael's, S. Glens Falls.For four years, Father Markert was a chaplain in the U.S. Navy. When he returned to the Diocese, he served at Sacred Heart, Sidney. Since 1984, he has been pastor of St. Gabriel's, Rotterdam.
(Father Markert will note his anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving on May 26, 11 a.m., at St. Gabriel's. A reception will follow.)

REV. SEAN McMAHON
, a native of Ireland, was ordained on Dec. 23, 1962. He has served at St. Patrick's, Johnstown; Our Lady of Victory, Troy; St. Peter's, Troy; Our Lady of Angels, Whitehall; St. Luke's, Schenectady; and, since 1974, Sacred Heart, Cairo, and Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham.(Father McMahon will mark his jubilee with family and friends in Ireland.)

REV. FRANCIS O'CONNOR
, a native of Albany, was ordained on May 26, 1962. He has been assigned to St. Brigid's, Watervliet; St. Mary's, Granville, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Middle Granville; St. Peter's, Stillwater; St. Peter's, Troy (while on the faculty of Catholic Central High); St. Mary's, Hudson Falls; and St. John the Baptist, Schenectady.Father O'Connor also served as secretary to Bishop William Scully. He served as pastor of St. Joseph's, Albany; chaplain at Albany Medical Center Hospital; pastor of St. Patrick's, Albany; and chaplain at St. Mary's and Samaritan hospitals, Troy.
Last month, he began his latest assignment: pastor of Holy Family, Stottville, and of Nativity/St. Mary's, Stuyvesant Falls.

REV. THOMAS POWERS,
a native of Albany, was ordained on Dec. 19, 1962. He taught at St. Patrick's High, Catskill, and Keveny Academy, Cohoes. He was a chaplain at Albany Medical Center Hospital and pastor of St. Agnes/St. Patrick parish in Cohoes.For seven years, Father Powers served as director of Casa Santa Maria in Rome, Italy. When he returned to the Diocese, he was named director of the Office of Continuing Education.
As a pastor, he has served at St. John the Baptist, Valatie, and (currently) St. Teresa of Avila, Albany.
(Father Powers will celebrate his anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving in December.)

REV. JOHN ROONEY
, a native of Albany, was ordained on May 26, 1962. He has served as a chaplain at Samaritan Hospital, Troy; at St. Mary's, Albany; on the faculty of Mercy High, Albany; at Our Lady of the Assumption, Latham; on the faculty of Catholic Central High, Troy; at St. Mary's, Troy; and as director of the CYO, Troy-Albany.For 25 years, he was pastor of Sacred Heart, Albany. For the past six years, he has been pastor of Sacred Heart, Watervliet.

REV. JOHN WEYAND,
a native of Hornell, served at Immaculate Conception, Schenectady, and St. Mary's, Cooperstown before entering the U.S. Army as a chaplain. He was stationed in several places, including Fort Knox, Kentucky; Vietnam; Germany; and Fort Hood, Texas.After retiring from the Army, Father Weyand returned to the Albany Diocese to serve as chaplain at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He has been pastor of St. Joseph's, Greenfield Center, since 1994.
(Father Weyand will mark his anniversary on June 9 with a picnic and field day at his parish.)

Rev. George Guinan St. John,
pastor of Holy Spirit parish in East Greenbush, is marking his golden jubilee of ordination this year. He was ordained on June 7, 1952.A native of Troy, he has served at Blessed Sacrament, Albany, and St. Margaret of Cortona, Rotterdam Junction. He was a chaplain at the Mercy Motherhouse, Albany, and Albany Medical Center Hospital.
For the Diocese, Father St. John served as director of religious education and Catholic radio/television. After obtaining a master's degree in education, he was named principal of St. Patrick's High in Catskill.
After being pastor of St. Patrick's, Catskill, and St. Mary's, Glens Falls, he was appointed chairperson of the Priests' Personnel Board of the Diocese. He has been pastor of Holy Spirit since 1981.
(Father St. John will celebrate his jubilee with a Liturgy of Thanksgiving on June 2 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a reception. Thirteen priests will take part in the Mass.)
***Rev. R. Mansfield Starks,
a native of Rochester, is marking his 60th anniversary as a priest. He was ordained on May 30, 1942.He served at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany; Ss. Peter and Paul, Canajoharie; St. Joseph's, Schenectady; St. Luke's, Schenectady; St. Joan of Arc, Menands; and Immaculate Conception, Glenville. He was also director of the Diocesan Cemeteries Office.
Father Starks was at Immaculate Conception, Glenville, from 1968 to 1990, during which time he oversaw the building of the church, school of religion and rectory.
(Father Starks will celebrate his anniversary with a reception on May 19 after the 11 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception. It will be held in the parish center named in his honor.)
