Priest has long Cathedral bond
A Franciscan from St. Anthony-on-Hudson Friary in Rensselaer, he travels to the Cathedral each day to celebrate Mass and Reconciliation, and to do counseling.
Decades before he started consecrating the Body of Christ, however, Father Mohr said, he would often wolf down a jelly sandwich and walk down to the Cathedral for a visit during lunch. He grew up in the parish, serving Mass and attending Cathedral Academy (since closed) with his brother.
"I loved the Cathedral!" he said enthusiastically. "It meant a lot to my vocation."
In what he wryly calls his "twilight years," Father Mohr has happily returned to the parish to help out. He often brings a bag of discarded clothing from the Friary to drop off in the Cathedral's "clothing room" for the poor.
"People find it an oasis of peace," he said of those he meets. "They tell me how much it means to them." (KB)
