Prayer, healing topic for gathering
Rev. Martin Fisher, associate pastor at St. Ambrose in Latham, will be the main speaker at the April 14 event.
According to Deacon Jerry Gregaitis and his wife Marie, parishioners of St. Edward's, the semi-annual meeting attracts between 100 and 125 people for "prayer, praise and celebration of the presence of the Lord among His people." The couple acts as the Albany Diocese's liaison to the National Catholic Charismatic Renewal Commission.
"The evening is a time when prayer groups from around our Diocese gather for a charismatic celebration," Deacon Gregaitis said. "We do this twice a year. For everyone involved, it is an exciting evening."
The music ministry "Joyful Heart" performs songs of praise and thanksgiving before "those who have gathered quietly contemplate the word of God through Scripture readings and the individual witness of tongues," said Mrs. Gregaitis.
Father Fisher will then teach, usually through a Scripture reading. "We always look forward to hearing him speak," Deacon Gregaitis said.
A healing prayer service is scheduled to be held in the chapel after the service.
"The prayer meeting and healing service are opportunities for charismatic Catholics to gather, share some prayer and fellowship, and experience a unique evening of faith expression," Deacon Gregaitis said. "Each time we sponsor the meeting, many people come because they both enjoy and look forward to the fellowship. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us."
(Those who wish to attend this event, April 14 at 6 p.m., are requested to bring refreshments to share. For information, call 371-7372.)
