ALBANY SCHOOL
POSSIBLE MAGINN MOVE POSTPONED
"As you know, we are working diligently to find a long-term solution to focus Bishop Maginn'sresources on academic programs, rather than the costs associated with our current building," the letter stated. "While this process continues, we wanted to make clear that Bishop Maginn High School will remain at its current location through at least June 2015.
"The process that began three months ago continues, and we will keep you updated as we continue to assess various options. The facts about the challenges facing our school have not changed, and our focus on securing the best and brightest future for Bishop Maginn has not changed."
On March 31, the school's administrative team met with students, faculty and staff to discuss a possible move to the former Cathedral Academy building in Albany, located at 75 Park Avenue. At that time, the school described the move as "possible" and under "serious consideration."
"It was in the planning stages, and unfortunately, the [secular] media changed everything for us," Mr. Salamack told The Evangelist. "A few days later, the media story broke, and it caused the superintendent and the head of school to put together a letter [for families about the move], because we didn't want people to read it in the news."
In the school's most recent weekly newsletter, parents of students noted that relocation is "still a possibility in the future" and asked families to spread the word that Maginn is still "a vibrant school with much to offer," especially "an excellent education."
"I don't know what changed the [Diocese's] decision," Mr. Salamack said. "The planning has not stopped - with parents, faculty, students. The superintendent is putting together a team to continue the planning."[[In-content Ad]]
