PENTECOST POETRY
"Pentecost"
He was like a chameleon - different each time and yet always the same -
Each time He came He brought something new - How they should think and what they should do.
They tried to keep up with the changes He offered,
But somehow their old life kept pulling them back.
The old life was comfortable. They understood it, but this put them under attack
And now huddled, waiting and frightened in this upper room,
It started to feel all they once had, had died. Like a tomb
All the doors and the windows were closed.
Locked in the darkness and gloom, they disposed of everything
But their hope in Him and His word.
Then they heard a rustle; the candle flames blew out but tongues of fire appeared about the heads of each and a mighty wind blew open the door.
New life rose up for them, unlike the one they knew before.
They saw the light in themselves and in each other now.
A great hymn of praise erupted from every heart.
They could not contain it or set it apart.
They rushed out to share. It filled
the air
And with it gave the whole world a new start.
