POWER(FUL) POINT
Parish gives high-tech homily
He told The Evangelist that the computer presentation was the brainchild of several finance committee members who wanted to provide parishioners with the annual parish financial report.
In addition, they reviewed the parish's commitment to a strong stewardship program based on time, talent and treasure, as outlined by Bishop Howard J. Hubbard ten years ago.
High-tech
"We thought the computer presentation would effectively deal with all of those issues," Father Cebula said. "Three members of the finance committee decided to give the Power Point presentation at the Masses."In addition, the committee used the opportunity to present an update on the parish's recent $480,000 renovation project for improvements to the church and establishment of new office space. They also gave a short history of the parish. The entire process took 15 minutes.
"We made arrangements with an outside firm to provide us with a large screen for viewing the information," Father Cebula noted. "It was wheeled out and placed in front of the altar for the presentation. Afterwards, it was easily rolled off to the side of the altar."
Information
The last segment of the presentation "was a series of over 70 pictures of various events held within the parish during the last year or two," the pastor said. "Our goal was to inform parishioners but also to build on the spirit of community. We wanted people to know that their time, talents and treasures are appreciated here, that their commitment really does make a difference."The renovation includes new office space and office furniture, new boilers and air conditioning, a new roof for the office and the gym, new heating units and controls, carpeting and insulation, a renovated kitchenette and storage areas, lighting fixtures, updated electrical service and a new fire alarm system, and energy efficient windows and blinds.
In the future, the parish hopes to install handicapped-accessible bathrooms in the church.
"This building is about 40 years old," Father Cebula said. "Back then, not many churches were built with bathrooms. We just have to raise the money and then we'll go forward with the project."
