ECUMENICAL EFFORT
Parish clothing dolls for needy children
Every girl remembers her first doll, and Joan Bunn of Immaculate Conception parish in Glenville is among those working hard to make sure 37 children from needy families get one for Christmas.
The president of the parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society, Mrs. Bunn is also a member of the Schenectady/Saratoga area Coalition of Churches. She learned about the project at one of its meetings.
"A lady from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenville told us that 37 dolls were donated to her church for distribution this Christmas, but they came without clothing," Mrs. Bunn explained. "I thought it might be fun to see if some of our parishioners who knit and sew could make some outfits for the dolls. It's a good opportunity to make a difference in the lives of some little girls who might not get a doll of their own."
Other churches in the coalition are the United Methodist Church of Burnt Hills, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Scotia and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Ballston Lake.
Mrs. Bunn said that five women from her parish are sewing little dresses, capes, coats, gowns, skirts, blouses and jackets.
"One lady from Our Lady of Grace made several outfits and even packed them into a little trunk," she said.
(The goal is two outfits for each doll. Anyone interested in creating an outfit can call Mrs. Bunn at 399-9168. The deadline for delivery is Dec. 15.)
