Other document on women
"Ten Frequently Asked Questions About the Reservation of Priestly Ordination to Men: A Pastoral Response by the Committee on Doctrine of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops" states that the Church has no authority to confer priestly ordination on women.
Albany diocesan officials said the document offered no new information.
"It's a further elaboration of what the Holy See has stated before," said Rev. Geoffrey Burke, chancellor for personnel and public information.
Sister Kathleen Turley, RSM, chancellor for planning and pastoral services, agreed that the document said nothing new but was saddened as well.
"While I feel fulfilled as a woman in the Church and I do not feel called to the priesthood, I am sad that those who do feel called can't fulfill that dream," she said. (MM)
