REOS
One family is getting special school notice
"He grew up just four houses down from our school, and his family are parishioners," said Karen Snyder, principal. "His dad is the current superintendent of Troy City Schools, and our community has helped them in their grieving process. The Reo family lost both a son and a son-in-law to Sept. 11."
After the liturgy, students will plant an evergreen bush in front of the school, next to a lilac bush planted memorializing those who died in the Oklahoma City bombing.
The Reo family will also be remembered at St. Jude the Apostle School in Wynantskill. According to Cathleen Carney, principal, students will send a spiritual bouquet to the family. In addition, they will join members of the Altar Rosary Society in saying the Rosary for all of the victims and their families.
Students will also send homemade thank-you cards to police and fire companies in New York City, and the air traffic controllers who safely landed and diverted more than 4,500 aircraft after the attacks -- without an accident and in a little over two hours.
Children will make cards in both English and Spanish since there is a large Hispanic population in New York City, Miss Carney said.
St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls will be participating in a town-wide re-dedication of a Peace Pole in the newly formed Peace Park at the new firehouse, said Carol Geddis, principal. The ceremony will include prayers by the fire, police and rescue squads, a re-dedication by Rev. Joseph Manerowski, singing, and the solemn ringing of the fireman's bell. (MM)
