POETRY
Not as a Babe
the faithful God would come in tears.
Making public feelings within
all faithful hearts that longed for Him,
"We need a God that understands -
that toils and strives with calloused hands.
"We need a God that lifts us tall
when we have failed His laws and fall.
"We need a God to stand close by
who'll meet our questions eye-to-eye."
Yet with the eye none were to see
but with the heart, they'd know, "It's He."
Christ came to help, not make demands,
and yet fulfilled all God's commands.
The God-as-man came down to share
our problems - give a shepherd's care.
When John said, "Make the mountains low;
the valleys raise," it was to show
That He, like us, would walk the earth
His Godhead kingship hidd'n from birth.
On foot He walked in humbleness
so John preceded Him, God needed him thus to confess,
"There is God's Lamb," or who would know
that walked with Him on earth below?
Each Advent we are warned to watch.
The bridegroom comes and shuts the door.
He comes as King, not as a babe
not helpless as He was before.
He comes as judge, so best beware
for none will say He isn't there.
All eyes shall see Him in the clouds
accompanied by myriad crowds
Of angel hosts to claim the earth.
He'll judge each soul's eternal worth.
