New features added to The Evangelist's site on the internet
When he goes to Chicago this fall to begin studies leading to a doctorate, Rev. Mark Allman, currently associate pastor of Christ the King Church in Westmere, will keep in touch with the Albany Diocese through the internet edition of The Evangelist.
"I'm psyched that I can pick up my local diocesan newspaper off the internet," he said.
In that, he's like thousands of other people -- some of them from as far away as Israel -- who log on to www.evangelist.org every week to read The Evangelist.
Begun two years ago, The Evangelist's web site has proven popular with Catholics on business or vacation trips who want to know what's happening back home...with natives who move out of the area but who want to keep in touch with the old home town...with Catholic school and religious education students researching term papers...with regular readers who want to check out what Bishop Howard J. Hubbard said three months ago in his column...and with browsers from around the world who are looking for Church-related material.
Every week, in turn, many of those readers contact The Evangelist through e-mail to ask questions, change their addresses, offer a letter to the editor or suggest a change to make the web site better.
This week, The Evangelist adds to two features to its web site:
* A complete list of parishes in the Albany Diocese along with their addresses, main phone numbers and Mass schedules. This material, indexed by city, was previously available only through the annual directory, published in January by The Evangelist.
* An on-line Question of the Month for internet readers to answer through e-mail to The Evangelist. The best responses will be printed in the newspaper and on-line. A prize will be awarded through a random drawing from all responses.
(To reach either of the new features, go to www.evangelist.org.)
