New editor named
Ms. Blain, the first woman to be editor in the paper's 85-year history, came to The Evangelist in 1991 as an intern and subsequently served as a staff writer, assistant editor, interim editor (after the 2008 retirement of James Breig) and managing editor.
A native of Cohoes, she holds a degree in English and communications from Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. At The Evangelist, her writing has garnered awards from the national Catholic Press Association (CPA), Catholic Relief Services and Priests for Life, and from the New York State Association for Retarded Citizens. She was cited for such topics as coverage of senior citizens, developing countries, life issues, teenagers and persons with disabilities. She has twice been honored by the CPA with "writer/editor of the year" awards. Her "Good News for Kids" Scripture column, which explains each week's Sunday Gospel in terms children would understand, has won six CPA awards. As managing editor, she was responsible for many of the day-to-day operations of The Evangelist.
Mr. Ringwald was hired in June 2008 and introduced many new features to the paper and its business operations. Bishop Hubbard and The Evangelist's board of directors expressed their gratitude to Mr. Ringwald for his contributions. He will continue his association with the Sage Colleges, where he is a visiting scholar and directs the Faith and Society Project.[[In-content Ad]]
