SAINT ROSE
As the calendar turned to March, in sports it meant only one thing: college basketball madness.

Both the men's and women's basketball teams at The College of Saint Rose in Albany began the Northeast-10 Conference Tournaments over the weekend, but only one prevailed in first-round match-ups.

At the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium at CSR, senior Ashley Anderson recorded a double-double with a career best 19 points and 19 rebounds, leading the seventh-seeded Golden Knights to victory over tenth-seeded St. Michael's, 66-46.
The CSR women had lost both regular season match-ups against St. Michael's, but turned it up when it mattered most to advance to the second round of the NE-10 Conference tournament against the second-seeded Stonehill.

Things did not go as well for the men's team. On the road for their first round match-up against Southern New Hampshire, the Golden Knights fell 62-57. Jermaine Clark led all scorers with 27 points, but CSR converted only two field goals in the final seven minutes of play. The Golden Knights finish their season 11-17.

SECTIONALS
Things were not looking good on Sunday for the defending Class A Champions, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School in Schenectady. Down by 16 with one minute left in the third quarter and in foul trouble, ND-BG was on the verge of losing its quarterfinal match-up to South Glens Falls.

But, once the fourth quarter began, the tables turned. ND-BG closed the game on 17-1 run and defeated South Glens Falls 62-56 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy to advance to the semifinals in the Class-A sectional tournament.
Senior Brian Hamor was determined to continue his playing career at ND-BG, scoring a game high 23 points despite an injured left calf which had caused him to miss three games since February 6.

ND-BG will face Gloversville Friday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center in the Class-A semifinals.

MAAC TOURNAMENT
All eyes will be on the Times Union Center in Albany this weekend as Loudonville's Siena College men and women compete for a chance to be named MAAC Champions and a guaranteed spot in the NCAA Tournament.

The Siena men, who won the tournament last year and went on to upset Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, are favorites to win their tournament. Despite a 100-85 loss to Niagara on Friday, the Saints finished the regular season 16-2 in the MAAC and won the regular season title for the second consecutive year.

As the number-one overall seed in the tournament, they will open up Saturday against the winner of the Loyola/Canisius match-up to be played Friday night. In the women's tournament, Siena received the number 6 seed and will face number 3 seed Fairfield on Friday.

The women's championship game will take place on Sunday and the men's on Monday.[[In-content Ad]]
