Lots of love from God

Have you ever loved someone so much, you thought you'd just burst with it?

Maybe when you held your baby brother the first time, you felt how much you loved him and wanted to take care of him. Maybe your mom stayed with you when you were sick, and you saw how much she loved you and loved her right back!

If you've ever loved somebody that much, you know just a little of how much God loves us. In this week's Gospel (John 3:16-18), we find out God the Father loves us so much, He let Jesus become a person like us, just so Jesus could tell us that!

"God loved the world so much," Jesus said, "that He gave His only son to you, so that everyone who believes in me may live forever with God. God sent me to save the world, not to judge it. Only those who don't believe will be judged."

Love is a funny feeling. When you got a puppy for your birthday, you probably held him as he licked your face, and you felt something strange. Your chest felt tight and you couldn't stop smiling. You loved him so much, you wanted to hold him forever. Some people even cry when they feel that much love!

God loves us even more than that. In the Gospel story, Jesus said God the Father loves us so much that He let Jesus come to earth, be born and grow up a regular person, and finally get arrested and killed -- just so we could learn more about God from Jesus.

If you really love someone, you want them to love you back. When you held your baby brother, you probably didn't think that someday you'd be fighting over who had to clean the garage! You just thought about all the fun you'd have together and hoped he'd love you as much as you loved him.

That's how God feels about us. Jesus didn't become a person to yell at us for stuff we do wrong; He came to say that if we follow Him, we can live with Him someday in heaven. You know that you can't make anybody love you, but with God, you don't have to. God already loves all of us -- more than we can even dream of!

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, teach me to believe you when you say you love me, no matter what! Amen.
