Guest speakers include:
• attorney William Baaki of the Goldberg Segalla law firm in Albany (who is also a member of the Friends of Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine group that now runs the Auriesville shrine), speaking on law, abortion and the Reproductive Health Act; and
• Dr. Matthew Lynch, a neurologist affiliated with Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, addressing "the tragedy of doctor-prescribed suicide."
The day will also include a "Lobby 101" class for attendees to learn about effectively making their voices heard on issues of concern, as well as meetings with state lawmakers.
Attendees from the Albany Diocese will include Renee Morgiewicz, diocesan coordinator of parish services, who recently added "coordinator of respect life ministry" to her role; and Kathleen Gallagher, director of pro-life activities for the New York State Catholic Conference. The Catholic Conference lobbies on behalf of the state's bishops on public policy concerns.
"Advocacy days like 'Lobby for Life' are so important for lawmakers to be able to see that the protection of human life is important to their constituents," Mrs. Gallagher told The Evangelist. "We are called to let our light shine before others, not hide it under a bushel, so we must be visible to our elected officials and continually educate others and encourage them to join in our efforts to protect life.
"We have been resisting dangerous efforts to expand late-term abortion and legalize doctor-assisted suicide throughout this legislative session. We are encouraged that more and more lawmakers are raising concerns about these misguided policies," she added.
"The Senate majority does not seem inclined to change New York's abortion law, and neither the Senate nor Assembly seems anxious to enact a state policy of doctor-prescribed lethal drugs for the terminally ill."
