PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
Jesus, help me treasure the little things I love in each day! Amen.

Seven Apostles went fishing but caught nothing. A man on shore said, "Caught anything to eat? Throw your nets there, and you will." The Apostles caught 153 fish! Then they knew the man was Jesus, alive again. Peter got so excited, he jumped off the boat and swam to Jesus. Jesus cooked breakfast, and they all ate together.

Disney vacations, expensive presents and once-in-a-lifetime experiences are put out there as being every kid's dream. But the truth is that, often, little things are what you remember most: cooking with your grandmother, seeing your dad wave from the car as he picks you up after softball practice or faith formation, saying good morning every day to a teacher you really like.

This week's Gospel (John 21:1-14) is about simple things like that: fishing and having breakfast.

In the Gospel story, Jesus has died, and His friends don't know yet that He's come back to life. They go back to their old job, fishing, and even that's not working out for them -- maybe because they're sad and not trying very hard. Then the Apostles chat with a guy on the beach who gives them fishing advice. To their surprise, He turns out to be Jesus!

You might think they'd want to celebrate by throwing a huge party or yelling from the rooftops about Jesus' return -- something big and impressive. But, like you enjoy making rolls every weekend with your Grandma, it's a little thing that matters a lot: They just sit down and eat together, and Jesus cooks breakfast.

Isn't it crazy to think about God cooking breakfast? Obviously, that's what Jesus wanted to do when He first came back -to be with His friends.

Jesus understood that little moments, especially with people you care about, are more important than even a Disney vacation.[[In-content Ad]]
