Leaning on Jesus

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
Jesus, help me remember to lean on you like I lean on parents when I'm upset, sick or tired. Amen!
Jesus talked to God the Father, saying: "Although you have hidden things from the wise, you have shown them to the childlike. I know you like no one else does. Everyone who is tired and feels burdened and weighed down, come to me, and I will give you rest. My burden is light."

You might be a big kid now, but every once in a while - when you're exhausted after a long day, when you're sad or when you're not feeling well - what you need most in the world is to lean on one of your parents. It feels great to be hugged or to fall asleep in your mother's or father's arms.

Parents aren't always available, though. Sometimes they're working or busy when you want to lean on them. Some parents aren't around at all.

This week's Gospel (Matthew 11:25-30) promises that God isn't like that. Whenever you need to lean on Jesus, He's there.

It's reassuring, when you're tired out or not feeling like yourself, to be held by someone who cares about you. You can relax and let your mother or father handle things.

Jesus wanted us to do the same with God. When you're exhausted, sick or just feel like life is too much to handle, God isn't too busy to listen to your troubles. You can lean on God like you lean on a parent. Jesus promised to lighten your load.

Kids often have a great connection to God and automatically trust Jesus. Adults don't always remember that. That's why Jesus said God the Father "shows things to the childlike" that grownups, who are supposed to be smart, might forget.

You know in your heart that Jesus is always waiting to reassure you and let you lean on Him, just like you lean on an adult. Then you won't feel weighed down by troubles, but light as a feather![[In-content Ad]]
