New Testament references to places in Jordan include Transjordan, Bethany Beyond the Jordan and Bethabara (the area where John preached and baptized), Gadara (Umm Qais), Perea (central Jordan east of the Dead Sea and the River Jordan), the Decapolis (a confederation of 10 ancient cities located mainly southeast of the Sea of Galilee), and Judaea beyond the Jordan.

Some New Testament passages that refer to Jesus being present in Jordan include:

* Jn 1:28 -- John baptizes Jesus at Bethany Beyond the Jordan;

* Jn 10:40 -- Jesus withdraws to the other side of the Jordan;

* Mk 8:32 -- Healing of deaf man in the Decapolis region;

* Mt 8:28 -- Jesus performs miracle in Gadara;

* Mt 4:25 -- Disciples of Jesus came from the Decapolis and Transjordan;

* Mt 19:1ff; Mk 10:1ff; Jn 3:26 -- Jesus preaches, heals and tells many parables in the part of Judaea on the far side of the Jordan (BRO)
