Good News for Kids
Jesus understands kids
Sometimes it feels like nobody understands kids. Grownups are always telling you that you're being silly or that something you're upset about is no big deal. You wonder if anyone understands how you feel!
Jesus does. Jesus was God, but also a person like us -- so He felt everything we do. Jesus laughed with His friends, cried when He was sad, felt scared about getting in trouble -- and in this week's Gospel (John 2:13-25), we even hear about Him getting angry!
Jesus went to the temple in Jerusalem and couldn't believe what He saw there. People were selling animals right in the temple and even making others pay money to get in! Jesus made a whip and drove them all out of the temple, flipping over the tables of money and yelling, "Stop making my Father's house into a marketplace!"
It can be frustrating to be a kid around adults. Things scare you that don't scare grownups, so they don't understand why you feel scared. Something makes you happy, and a grownup says, "You're acting silly. Stop it."
Things got frustrating for Jesus sometimes, too. In the Gospel story, He got angry when He found people selling animals and all sorts of other stuff in the temple -- a place that was supposed to be holy, like church. A temple is a house of God, and Jesus didn't like seeing what they were doing to it!
When you think no one understands you, you might feel lonely. You wonder if anyone will say, "I can see how you feel."
That's why it's important to remember about Jesus. Even when everyone else teases you, Jesus knows just how you're feeling -- because He felt that way, too. At the temple, Jesus even got so angry, He pushed people right out the door! Jesus had all the feelings you've ever had -- and He remembers them, even when the grownups around you don't!
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, help me remember to talk to you when I feel like I can't talk to anyone else. Amen!
