GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
Jesus answers some questions
Prayer for the week: Jesus, help me be patient when I can't get all the answers I want! Amen.
The Apostles were still sad because Jesus had died, when Jesus came into the room with them! "Why are you sad?" He asked. "I'm not a ghost; it's really me." He ate some food to show He was alive, then helped them understand why He died and came back to life. "I told you that this would happen to me," He said; "now remember it."
Questions make up a big chunk of a kid's life. You have to ask about everything, because there's a lot you're still learning. But the worst thing is when you ask a question, and even a grownup doesn't have the answer!
There are some things no one can really answer: What does heaven look like? Are there aliens on other planets? What did dinosaurs sound like when they roared?
The Apostles, in this week's Gospel (Luke 24:35-48), were a lot like kids. They had tons of questions, and most of those questions were tough to answer: Why did Jesus have to die? Why did He come to Earth as a person, if He was just going to leave again? What would happen to them now that He was gone?
Getting an answer to a tough question can be very satisfying. Maybe we don't know how dinosaurs sounded, but we can guess. You won't know exactly what heaven looks like until you go there, but a grownup could tell you it's beautiful, and you'll be happy and close to God there.
When Jesus came back, He answered some questions for the Apostles. He told them that He was really alive again, and explained that He came to Earth so people would know how much God loved them, and died and then came back to life so people would believe Jesus was really God and become better people, getting closer to God.
All questions don't have answers, but lots of questions about why God does things have the same answer: "because I love you!"
