Jesus answers our questions
Don't you hate it when you ask a question and no one wants to answer it? The grownups say, "I'll tell you when you're older," or "You ask too many questions!" Sometimes, it feels like you'll never learn all the things you want to know!
Jesus would understand how much you want answers. In this week's Gospel (John 15:26-27;16:12-15), He tells His followers not to worry -- their questions will be answered when God is ready!
"I have a lot more to tell you, but you've heard enough for now," Jesus told His followers after teaching them. "When the Holy Spirit comes, you'll find out more. The Holy Spirit will help you understand what I've told you about God and the future."
Kids have questions about everything. You want to know how many people live in the world, why bees sting people and whether you'll ever have a little brother -- and you want to know NOW!
But grownups have questions, too. When Jesus told His followers He was going to die soon and go back to heaven, they were full of questions. Why did He have to die? Who would teach them about God when Jesus was gone?
When you ask grownups questions, they answer all they can before saying, "Wait 'til you're older!" Jesus was the same way: He told His followers all about God. But after a while, the apostles asked too many questions! Jesus had to tell them to stop.
Even if it feels like forever until your questions are answered, you know that you're a lot smarter now than when you were little. You can even answer questions for younger kids! And there are always more grownups to ask questions of.
Jesus gave His followers someone to ask questions of, too: the Holy Spirit. Just like you keep getting smarter even when grownups don't answer all your questions, the apostles would keep learning when Jesus was gone, because the Holy Spirit would teach them. Everyone -- kids, grownups and even apostles -- can ask God for help in answering their questions!
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, teach me to come to you with all my questions -- to wait for the answers! Amen.
