Jesus and his father

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
Jesus, help me understand how all the adults in my life influence me! Amen.

"I am the way, the truth and the life," Jesus told His disciples. "No one comes to God the Father except through me." "Show us God the Father," the Apostle Philip said. Jesus answered, "If you've seen me, you've seen my Father. I am in Him and He is in me."

When a new baby is born, a lot of adults will start claiming right away, "Oh, she looks like her mother (or father)." To you, the baby probably just looks like all babies!

Besides, there's more to being like your parents than the way you look. We hear about that in this week's Gospel (John 14:1-12).

A baby might have her father's brown eyes or her mother's curly hair - but lots of children are brought up by people who aren't their birth parents, so it's hard to know.

Jesus was raised by His mother, Mary, and His foster father, Joseph - but He was the son of God the Father. We know Jesus was like Joseph in some ways, because they were both carpenters. In the Gospel story, Jesus also told the Apostles about God the Father.

Like some kids wonder about birth parents they don't know, the Apostles wondered about God the Father. They figured that, if Jesus was the Son of God, He should be able to introduce them to God the Father.

"If you want to see God the Father, look at me," Jesus answered.

Though we don't know how Jesus looked, we know how He acted. He was kind and loving and prayerful; He cared about people so much, He died for us. In those ways, He said, He was like God the Father.

There's more to how parents influence kids than the color of your eyes. God the Father had a big influence on who Jesus was![[In-content Ad]]
