Hurry to Jesus

Grownups are always rushing everywhere. You just sat down with your crayons, and your dad tells you to hurry and put them away -- you're going out with him. Your mom reads you a story and then says, "Now, go to sleep," before she even answers your questions about it!

In that way, Jesus was like most grownups. He had a lot more to get done than kids do, and not much time to teach everyone about God before He went back to heaven. In this week's Gospel (John 16:12-15), He doesn't even have time to answer the Apostles' questions!

"I have much more to tell you, but it will be too confusing right now," Jesus told His followers after a long day of teaching. "When the Holy Spirit comes, He will explain everything I've said to you, so you'll understand it better. Then you'll be closer to God."

When your dad wants you to go shopping with him, he tells you to finish coloring your picture later. When your mom is done with a bedtime story, she says, "We'll talk about your questions in the morning. Good night!"

Like them, Jesus was in a hurry. He had to make the Apostles understand how much God loved them before He died, and it took them a while to get it! Sometimes, Jesus said, "Just be quiet right now and listen to the stuff I need to tell you. Later on, the Holy Spirit will answer all your questions!"

Sometimes, grownups rush you for a good reason: They have to buy food your family needs, or they want you to get enough sleep. Jesus rushed the Apostles because He knew that after He was gone, they'd have to teach people about God for Him.

Jesus wanted them to know everything they needed to go out and teach. Like the grownups you know who are in a hurry, Jesus had a good reason: He wanted to make sure we have everything we need!

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, help me be patient with grownups who rush me. Amen!
