At The College of Saint Rose in Albany, JEFFREY SELINGO, editor-at-large for The Chronicle of Higher Education and a leading observer of higher education, discussed "The College of the Future" in a talk presented by the college's Sullivan Institute for Higher Education Leadership. Hybrid learning, three-year degrees and no-frills colleges were some of his talking points.

Saint Rose also recently held "Reach Out Saint Rose," its annual community service day, with 1,000 students volunteering in the city's Grand Street Arts Center, the Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence (an Underground Railroad site) and the Central Avenue business improvement district; and a service day during which 200 students made 3,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to feed the needy at homeless shelters and food pantries.

New transfer agreements between Saint Rose and both Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown and Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie will enable FMCC students who earn an associate degree in business administration to transfer to CSR's bachelor's program in business administration and DCC students who earn an associate degree in computer science to transfer to the Saint Rose bachelor's program in computer science. A similar agreement allows Hudson Valley Community College fine arts students to transfer into CSR's studio arts program. See www.strose.edu/transfer, call 454-5150 or email capognad@strose .edu. Saint Rose has also added business majors in management, entrepreneurship, marketing and human resource management.

Saint Rose was named a "military-friendly school" for the fifth consecutive year by Victory Media, which produces publications for military personnel transitioning to civilian life....

Siena College in Loudonville just held its annual "blessing of the athletes" ceremony, blessing students who play in 18 sports programs and concluding with a candlelight vigil to note Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Siena also hosted a series of men's lacrosse exhibition games to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps injured veterans and their families. The day included a free youth clinic and games against other colleges and universities, including Pace, Colgate, Western New England, Skidmore and Union.

Siena held its annual Clare Center lecture, sponsored by the department of religious studies for more than 20 years to discuss the Franciscan tradition through a significant present-day issue. This year, DR. CATHERINE MOONEY, an associate professor of Church history at Boston College, spoke on the "liberation of the laity today" in light of today's Church today and the 13th-century Franciscan tradition.

Siena alumnus DR. JOSEPH MAROTTA, an Albany orthopedic surgeon profiled in The Evangelist (see www.evangelist.org) for his work as founder of Medicus Christi, a non-profit organization building an orthopedic surgery center in Ghana, has launched the "Break Ebola" grassroots campaign to address the severe shortage of basic medical supplies in countries battling the virus. Dr. Marotta wants to purchase some protective supplies for healthcare workers and get manufacturers to donate some; see http://medicuschristi.com/donate.[[In-content Ad]]
