GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
God the Father, a hero
Jesus, help me look for everyday heroes and remember you're the biggest hero ever! Amen. "God loved the world so much," Jesus said, "that He gave His only Son to you, so that everyone who believes in me may live forever with God. God sent me to save the world, not to judge it. Only those who don't believe will be judged."
Heroes are in the news all the time - not pretend superheroes like Spiderman, but real people who do impressive things. Some heroes raise a lot of money for charity; others rescue people in trouble. There are a lot of ways to be a hero.
God the Father was probably the biggest hero of all time. This week's Gospel (John 3:16-18) reminds us that He gave up Jesus, His only Son, to come into the world and save it.
A hero might be someone who conquered a big problem, or someone who took the time to help other people even though he had problems himself. The key to being a hero is being unselfish.
God the Father was like that. He could have kept Jesus in heaven with Him, but He chose to let Jesus go - and not just to become a person like us and have to deal with all the problems of being human. Jesus also had to suffer and die on the cross to save the world.
Some heroes get famous for saving people from fires or floods. God the Father could have saved Jesus in an instant, but He allowed Jesus to die so that people would see Jesus was really God and start to believe in God.
It's hard to be a hero. That's why we're impressed when we hear the stories of heroes. But if everyday people impress us, God the Father should impress us even more. He let go of His Son so the whole world could be saved![[In-content Ad]]
