GOD OVER GROWNUPS
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, teach me to ask you when I need help with anything! Amen.
Some grownups think they know everything. They're always trying to teach you something; they might even help you do things you don't want help with. You wish they'd just let you learn on your own. Jesus knew how you feel. Lots of people He met thought they already knew all about God. They weren't interested in what He had to say; they thought they had all the answers. In this week's Gospel (Matthew 11:25-30), Jesus answers them. When a grownup tries to make you learn something, it can be frustrating. You want to learn by figuring things out, not from adults who think they know everything! In the Gospel story, Jesus told people that you're right. He said it's best to learn about God like a kid learns about life: by listening to everything, keeping an open mind and being trusting. Jesus said that if people decided they knew all the answers, they'd probably be wrong! Sometimes, it's best to do things your own way just because it's easier. Jesus reminded us to turn to God, too: If you're having a hard time, He said, God's the only one who really has answers. Grownups might think they know everything, but Jesus said, "Learn from me!"Jesus prayed, "I praise you, Father, because you've helped people understand my teachings if they listen like children. No one really knows me but you, and no one really knows you but me." Then He told the people: "Come to me if you've been struggling and you're tired, and I'll give you rest. Learn from me, because the work I give isn't such a burden."
