ST. MICHAEL'S, SOUTH GLENS FALLS
For this K of C member, keeping Christ in Christmas starts with distributing pens
Mr. Lefebvre, who is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, is on a mission to put a pen in every person's hand in the entire world.
The pens he plans on sharing will feature "thank you" in many languages, as well as the quote, "Keep Christ in Christmas and Also in Your Heart."
Mr. Lefebvre is starting small. He's been passing out purple and silver pens inscribed with the phrase, "Keep Christ in Christmas," along with a line about the Knights of Columbus and the name of his parish.
Although the phrase is part of a national campaign by the Knights of Columbus, Mr. Lefebvre started the pen project on his own. He fronted the money from his own pocket for the 500-pen order.
"Money's not everything in life," he told The Evangelist. "Money can't buy you health and money can't buy you heaven. But it can help spread this message around the word."
Rev. Guy A. Child, pastor at St. Michael's, said Mr. Lefebvre is a very dedicated parishioner, always jumping in to do any task that's needed.
The pastor believes the pens are "a wonderful gesture. I think people respond with a great deal of excitement."
Mr. Lefebvre has received holiday wishes and hugs when he hands out pens at the grocery store, Stewart's Shops and pretty much anywhere else he happens to be.
"You always need a pen," remarked the member of the Rev. Robert A. Nugent Council No. 11160 of the Knights of Columbus. Before Mr. Lefebvre lets a recipient walk away, he makes sure the person reads aloud the phrase inscribed on it, so the recipient understands what the pen represents.
The colors of the pens aren't just for fun. Purple is the color that fourth-degree Knights of Columbus like Mr. Lefebvre wear; silver represents Christmas bells.
Mr. Lefebvre doesn't believe there will be any leftover pens this year, especially considering that he is planning on giving them out at St. Michael's Christmas Eve vigil Mass. He hopes parishioners will share the pens with a friend, spreading the important message they impart.
The knight believes that, by putting a pen in everyone's hand, he will be able to influence the next generation. "You want the best for your kids," he said. "Then those kids will want the best for their kids."
Mr. Lefebvre also remarked that, with technology progressing at such a fast rate, humanity will eventually have people living on the moon.
"Then we'll have to send pens up there!"[[In-content Ad]]
