Finding lost things
Some people are experts at losing things. They put something down and suddenly, it seems like it disappears! They're always trying to find something, scratching their heads as they wonder how they could have lost it.
When something seems lost, it's often right in front of you -- you just don't see it. That's how it was for the disciples in this week's Gospel (Luke 24:13-35): Jesus had come back to life, and they didn't know it!
Two disciples were walking along when Jesus appeared and walked with them. They didn't know who He was and talked about what had happened to Jesus. Jesus explained the Bible to them, and they all had dinner together. When Jesus blessed the food, they suddenly recognized Him, and He disappeared. The disciples ran to tell their friends that Jesus was alive!
Why do people lose things? Many times, it's because they just weren't paying attention to where they put something down. Then they get so upset about losing it, they don't notice when it's right in front of them!
The disciples must have felt like that. They were walking along, talking about how sad they were that Jesus died and wondering if He would really come back to life. But when Jesus appeared, they weren't paying attention and didn't notice it was Him!
When people find something they lost, they often feel a little embarrassed that they didn't find it right away. The disciples were in the same boat: They couldn't believe they hadn't recognized Jesus right away, but they were excited to have Him back. Finding something you lost is always a great feeling!
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, help me to find whatever I lose! Amen.(04-11-02) [[In-content Ad]]
