WHEN MIKE PIAZZA came to Cooperstown last weekend to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the former New York Mets player, a Catholic, also attended 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass at St. Mary's Church. He asked Rev. John Rosson, pastor, for a blessing, signed autographs and took photos with parishioners; Sue Hanson (center) of St. Kateri Tekakwitha parish in Schenectady shared this shot.

Later, Mr. Piazza mentioned in his Hall of Fame speech that his mother "gave me the gift of my Catholic faith, which has had a profound impact on my career and has given me patience, compassion and hope. Pope Benedict XVI said, 'One who has hope lives differently.'"[[In-content Ad]]
