FACTS Research findings
* Women who use tobacco have an increased risk of cancer, heart and lung diseases, and reproductive disorders;
* Smoking-related diseases caused the premature death of approximately 165,000 women in 1999;
* Smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in this country; and
* Smoking during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery and infant death. As many as 10 percent of all infant deaths could be prevented if pregnant women did not smoke. (PP)
