1. Public school students wear uniforms. The color for secondary schools is green; locals call students "The Green Army." The primary school color is blue.

2. At around 10, Muslim girls start to cover their heads and learn to pray.

3. Red and white are traditional colors for Jordanian men's checkered headdress. Palestinian men may choose to wear black and white.

4. Jordan's population is around 4.5 million. Bedouins number about 65,000.

5. 96 percent of the people are Sunni Muslims.

6. Nothing lives in the Dead Sea. Through evaporation, the shoreline is shrinking about one meter per year. Muslim folklore says the Dead Sea is a cursed place.

7. Jordan's workweek is Saturday through Thursday. The nation's labor law allows Christians to take time, without penalty, for Sunday worship.

8. Motorcycles are illegal.

9. Most Palestinians in Jordan are Jordanian Nationals. Jordan is the only country to offer citizenship to the refugees.
