The Catholic Church has always condemned abortion as a grave evil - another phrase for sin. The Bible forbids abortion, as it forbids murder. Abortion is considered murder because, when a pregnant woman gets an abortion, she is killing a child who hasn't lived life outside the womb yet. Every life, inside and outside the womb, is precious. Abortion goes against the sixth commandment, "Thou shalt not kill."
When you have an abortion, it is like saying you don't want a baby and all the consequences of being a mother. There are other ways to not raise a child: put the child up for adoption or see if a family member would raise the baby. Adoption is giving your child to a new family, which is better than killing the child.
Abortion has been one of the most divisive issues in America. Since the Roe v. Wade decision [that legalized abortion in 1973], there have been more than 50 million abortions performed in the United States.
Many people call themselves "pro-choice," which means they believe abortion is a private decision between the person and the doctor, without government interference. Also, many people call themselves "pro-life," which means they believe abortion is the killing of children before they are born and it should never be tolerated in a free society.
As people, the right to life is the most basic and important right we possess. Each life is precious and God made us all in His likeness. God has a special plan for each one of us. As a pro-life person, I will always support the teachings of the Catholic Church.[[In-content Ad]]
